From the President:

June 3, 2006.

Dear Members and Friends,

Oops, we did it again! We hosted a wonderful May Dinner on May 9th. If you missed it, you missed a great fun evening filled with laughs, prizes and water guns!

It's hard to believe that after all that hard work that the event is all over, as our NAIW year is about to be. Our year runs from June to June and with this next meeting we will have closed one more NAIW year.

We unveiled our plans for the coming year at the May Dinner, also. This year will be our big push for education for the Ventura County area. We are lining up some wonderful teachers with some great topics for CE credits for this area. With the Big I not providing education to us, we at IWVC feel that it is up to us to fill in the gap. We will be hosting a cocktail party in September to unveil our topics and teachers, so please join us then. We will also try to obtain some classes for the Life and Health agents in the area. If you know of a class that you would like to see presented please contact either myself or Kriss Halperin (our phone numbers are in this bulletin) and we will try to provide it for you. This in no way means that we will not have our fun meetings, too!

Remember, Belonging to NAIW is Good Business!

Please join us in June for our last meeting of the year at Sue Zieder's Fillmore cottage. Joe, the Taco Man, will be there to provide great food and, of course, the company is always wonderful!

Until then I am,
Yours in fellowship,
Ruth,
Ruth Uridel, CPIW.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT OF NAIW:

May 1, 2006.

To: 2005-06 Executive Committee, Board of Directors, State Directors and Local Presidents.

I consider March and April the travel season of NAIW. All of the executive committee and regional vice presidents were on the road or in the air as they met their commitments to you even when family and business matters were pressing. The dedication the officers have shown to you the members of NAIW always amazes me.

Last year in the spring I was preparing for the national convention, looking forward to a long year of excitement, work and accomplishments starting with Installation in Reno, Nevada. This year has not been a disappointment. There have been surprises, challenges and many joys. This May I am again preparing for national convention with staff, many of you and others who have joined our team. It is hard to believe that eleven (11) months have passed. When the administrative report is read at convention you will hear all that has been accomplished by those you elected and who have volunteered to move this association forward.

Volunteers are needed to be successful in Orlando. State Directors, State Director Elects, please volunteer to work at national. The training sessions will take place on Friday. Consult the agenda that is on the www.naiw.org web site. (Close the new window to return here.) All board members or elected leaders - please share this request with your assistants and any other members you know who are attending the convention and ask them to sign up as soon as their schedules can be considered. There are approximately 40 opportunities for members to participate.

As the Nominating Committees complete their duties and present the candidates for your local associations consider the qualifications of those who are presented. Make sure the candidates are members in good standing before presenting the slate of candidates. This is the most important decision to be made at the local level and will affect the activities of the association for the next twelve (12) months. Good luck.

Many of you are aware that my mother passed away on April first. The receipt of your cards, flowers, plants and gifts has been overwhelming and continuous. In my life I have three families - my blood family, my spiritual family and my NAIW family. At a time in our lives when a crossroad is difficult to travel the love of family is necessary to simply find the courage to get up in the morning. I have been three times blessed. Thank you for the loving care you have provided me. I am doing well and looking forward to seeing all of you in Orlando. I am forever grateful.

Look Beyond the Horizon Achieve Your Dreams.

Yours in fellowship;

Joanna M. Mahoney ARM, CPCU, CPIW, DAE,
NAIW International President.

REAGANISMS (Ya gotta love This Guy!):

Here's my strategy on the Cold War: "We win, they lose."

"The most terrifying words in the English Language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

"Of the four wars in my lifetime none came about because the U.S. was too strong."

"I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandment's would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress."

"The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination."

"Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."

"If we ever forget that we're one Nation under God, then we will be a Nation gone under."

"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."

"I've laid down the law, though, to everyone from now on about anything that happens: no matter what time it is, wake me, even if it's in the middle of a Cabinet meeting."

"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first."

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it and if it stops moving, subsidize it."

"Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book." (Amen!)

"No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women."

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem."
