From the President:

April 1, 2006.

Dear Members and Friends,

Happy Easter to one and all! Since the Easter bunny is hopping down the bunny trail, this must mean that Spring is here - and about time!

If you missed our March meeting, you missed two wonderful women who shared with us their wares - Avon Cosmetics and Cooke Lee jewelry. We all had a great time trying out and on these wonderful products. Orders can still be taken. Just call Ruth and she'll hook you up.

We are all getting ready for our annual May Dinner - 'Every Old is New Again'. Please join us for a rockin' 50's time and sample our various '50's toys and games with a special surprise for the center of each table. Hope to see you there!

Thank you for sending me to Regional Conference again. If you have never been to a State or Regional, you don't know the energy that you get from these wonderful women. Makes you glad you sell or service insurance!! The following is a brief overview of the awards and elections that were held during Conference.

ELECTIONS: Michelle Epstein, AAI, AIS, ACSR, CISR, CPIW - Regional Vice President;
Jolene A. Gilbert, AIS, CISR, DAE, CPIW, ACSR, CPSR - Alternate to National Nominating Committee;
Sally Nordwall-Echols, CLU, CPIW - National Nominating Committee.

This is Michelle's second year as Regional Vice-President. She chose to run so that she could complete some special programs she had started and I, for one, have to hand it to her for taking on this job a second year. Congrats, Michelle!

AWARDS:

  1. E.C. Smith Memorial Award - Ins. Professionals of Sacramento;
  2. Jeffrey Nordhaus Memorial Award - no award made, nobody applied;
  3. Regional VIII Public Relations Award - Ins. Women of Fresno;
  4. Association of the Year - no award made, no body applied;
  5. AAMGA Award - Maria Hamilton (Nevada);
  6. Rookie of the Year - Carole Burke;
  7. Pinnacle Award - South Bay Chapter of NAIW;
  8. Claims Professional of the Year - Kim Shipman, AIS, AIC (Nevada);
  9. Insurance Professional of the Year - Victoria A. Ruai, CPIW, AU, CPCU (California);
  10. Hall of Fame - no award made, none applied;
  11. Member of the Year Award - Wendy Pike, CPCU, CPIW (California).

This was the first year that we had awards go unclaimed. This was truly a shock to all there. From now on, I will have these award guidelines forwarded to all of our members so that we, too, can be part of the awards.

On Friday, March 24th, 2006, Region VIII also held a Remembrance Ceremony for those NAIW members who had passed away since the 2005 Conference. For the first time, IWVC was a part of this. Region VIII presented a lovely crystal vase for Sherry's parents. I will be forwarding this to them. They were truly lovely people that I just wish I could have met any other way. We also donated $50.00 to the R. C. Ministries in Sherry's memory. God rest her soul.

Upcoming Region VIII events to mark on your calendars:

  • September 22-23, 2006, California State Council Meeting;
  • April 11-13, 2007, Regional Conference - Tri City Plus Association of Insurance Professionals, Tempe, AZ;
  • 2008, Regional Conference - Ins. Professionals of Orange County, San Diego Ins. Women, Ins. Women of North San Diego, Members at Large;
  • 2009, Regional Conference - Ins. Professionals of Salt Lake City (Utah);
  • 2010, Regional Conference - Ins. Women's Association of Sonoma County;
  • 2011, Regional Conference - Contra Costa Chapter of NAIW;
  • 2012, Regional Conference - Hawaii Ins. Professionals.

As you can see, Insurance Women believe in planning ahead. So, don't say we didn't give you warning for the next six years. Make your plans!

Yours in fellowship,
Ruth Uridel, CPIW.

THE PAINT CAN.

A newlywed couple wanted to join a church. The pastor told them, "We have special requirements for new parishioners. You must abstain from sex for one whole month."

The couple agreed and, after two-and-a-half weeks, returned to the Church. When the Pastor ushers them into his office, the wife is crying, and the husband is obviously very depressed.

"You are back so soon. Is there a problem?" the pastor inquired.

"We are terribly ashamed to admit that we did not manage to abstain from sex for the required month," the young man replied sadly. The pastor asked him what happened.

"Well, the first week was difficult. However, we managed to abstain through sheer willpower. The second week was terrible, but with the use of prayer, we managed to abstain. The third week, however, was unbearable. We tried cold showers, prayer, reading from the Bible, anything to keep our minds off carnal thoughts. One afternoon, my wife reached for a can of paint and dropped it. Then she bent over to pick it up. I was overcome with lust and had my way with her right then and there," admitted the man, shamefacedly.

"You understand this means you will not be welcome in our church," stated the pastor. "We know." said the young man, hanging his head, "We're not welcome at Home Depot, either."
