Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors and lawyers and prospered. Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. They discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother who lived far away in another city.
The first said "I had a big house built for Mama." The second said "I had a hundred thousand dollar theater built in the house." The third said "I had my Mercedes dealer deliver an SL600 to her." The fourth said, "You know how Mama loved reading the Bible and you know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met this preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire Bible. It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to contribute $100,000 a year for twenty years to the church, but it was worth it. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it!" The other brothers were impressed.
After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes. She wrote: "Milton, the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway." "Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home; I have my groceries delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good. Thanks." "Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound, it could hold 50 people, but all my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the same." "Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious. Thank you."

Insurance Scholarship Foundation of America.
Founded by members of the National Association of Insurance Women.
Promoting Excellence Through Education... and Growing to Award More Scholarships.
January 4, 2006.
Ruth Marie Uridel, CPIW,
President - Insurance Women of Ventura County,
P. O. Box 7393,
Oxnard, CA 93031-7393.
Dear Ruth Marie,
The Insurance Scholarship Foundation of America - NAIW Education Foundation has taken a leadership role in helping the insurance industry improve the knowledge and skill of its current and future employees. The Foundation is one of the few scholarship foundations exclusively for the insurance industry. Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded over $330,000 in professional and college scholarships to women and men either preparing for, or working in the insurance industry.
Generosity from NAIW Local Associations like the Insurance Women of Ventura County make it possible for the Foundation to assist both women and men at the professional and college levels in their pursuit of education in Insurance, Risk Management and Actuarial Sciences.
We invite the Insurance Women of Ventura County to become a Founders Circle member by committing to a pledge of $1,000 in support of the Foundation's mission. The pledge is payable in five (5) years at $200 per year. Please complete the enclosed pledge card and mail it to the Foundation today with a check for $200.
Make the commitment... Join the Circle of the 170 NAIW Local Association Founders Circle donors, and help the Foundation Promote Excellence Through Education...and Growing to Award More Scholarships.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nancy Noe-Nichols, ARM, CPIW - Chairman.
Billie Sleet, CIC, CPIW - NAIW Liaison.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE WOMEN,

January 6, 2006.
To: NAIW Region VIII Local Association Presidents.
Dear President,
I have enclosed a proposed Amendment to the Region VIII Bylaws, which will be considered at the Region VIII conference in Las Vegas in March. As this is being mailed more than 60 days prior to the meeting, it will only require a simple majority to pass. This is the only proposed Amendment which has been presented to the 2006 Region VIII Bylaws Committee to date.
Please inform your members, and make sure your delegate and alternate ready to vote on this issue at Regional Conference.
Please call me if you have any questions.
In fellowship and with regards,
Linda J. Pirlot, AAI, CPCU, CPIW,

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO REGION VIII BYLAWS.
The Bylaws Committee recommends adoption of the following.
The San Francisco Chapter of NAIW submits the following proposed Amendment to Region VIII Bylaws, Article 3, Committees, Section F, Region VIII Awards Committee, subsection ii.d, Public Relations Award.
Current Wording.
F. Region VIII Awards Committee.
ii. The committee shall administer the following Region VIII awards:
d. Public relations Award.
Proposed Wording.
F. Region VIII Awards Committee.
ii. The committee shall administer the following Region VIII awards:
d. Roy Pasini Memorial Award for Public Relations.
Reason: Roy Pasini, who recently passed away, was a long time supporter of NAIW, both personally and with his publication Underwriters Report. We feel it is appropriate to name the Public Relations Award in his honor since he facilitated most of Region VIII's Public Relations efforts for at least four decades. This amendment is also supported by the Insurance Women of Sacramento, the Insurance Women of Southern Alameda County and the Tucson Association of Insurance Professionals.
Passage of this amendment would also require the following changes to the Region VIII Awards Fund Procedures Manual.
Current Section 1 AWARDS, part D. REGION VIII PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARD heading to now read D. ROY PASINI MEMORIAL AWARD FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS.
Current Section 2 FINANCE, part D, Allowed Expenses, subsection 1.
1. Not more than $100.00 each for the purchase of the award plaque or object for the Region VIII Member of the Year, Hall of Fame, Jeffrey Nordhaus Memorial Award for Education, Region VIII Public Relations Award, E. C Smith, Jr. Memorial Award for Safety and the Region VIII Association of the Year Award.
