From the President:

February 1, 2004.

Dear Members and Friends,

Happy Valentine's Day! I do hope that everyone had a good time at our last meeting. I know John Bell from Safelite Auto Glass did a fine job for us.

We're doing something different for our February meeting. We're having a dress sale. Come one, come all and that means you and all of your friends to our dress sale! These are wonderful clothes. All the fall and winter lines will be on sale plus we'll have a preview sale of the new spring/summer lines.

Has everyone received their information for regional conference? This looks like a great networking and educational time for all of us. Do try to attend. I can guarantee you'll come back far richer than when you left. If you have any questions about the conference, please give me a call.

Since this year seems to be flying by so fast, we need to start thinking about the May Dinner. Ask yourself where and how can my special talents be put to their best use? We will be forming the committees soon because May is just around the corner. Look for our call.

Looking forward to seeing all of you and your friends in February at our first dress expo.

Yours in fellowship,
Ruth Uridel, CPIW.

An Honest Answer.

"Are you a leader?" Chancellor Smith asked Jane during her admissions interview for college.

Without hesitation Jane replied, "No."

"That will be all then," said the chancellor, dismissing Jane from the room. Jane sulked away, believing that she'd just ruined her chances of getting into the school.

Within a week, she received a letter from the chancellor. "Boy, he doesn't waste any time sending out rejection notices," Jane thought. With a deep sigh, she opened the envelope. "Congratulations!" it read. "With all the leaders enrolled in our program, we felt it was important to admit at least one follower. We look forward to seeing you on campus next semester."

The experience taught Jane a valuable lesson about character that carried her through life: You don't have to pretend to be someone you are not when you are the best you can be.

REGION VIII NEWS.

Issue 1 - December 2003.

Greetings to Presidents, Members-at-Large, Members of Region VIII and fellow members in the NAIW organization.

It is my intention to submit a newsletter periodically to inform you of the events and happenings within NAIW.

In this first newsletter you will he introduced to the five State Directors. Presidents, your State Director is your first stop for information. Please utilize your State Directors for information. If necessary, the State Directors will go to their RVP's, Executive Committee, or Headquarters for additional information.

In this Issue you will also receive a summary of the State Meetings, read a message from National President, Cheryl Blair-Lee, and find other important information.

I would like to share with fellow members exciting events around our Region. I have asked the State Directors to inform me of events that are going on in each of the Local Associations. Please feel free to email your thoughts, ideas or information anytime and I will make sure we include it in the next issue.

Mary and I have completed our State Visits and enjoyed the hospitality during the State Meetings. Enclosed you will find a recap of each of the State Meetings.

President Blair-Lee has issued a 3% Challenge to all Regions to increase membership. So far, Region VIII is in 3rd Place with 108 new members!!! Another challenge President Blair-Lee has issued is for submissions for the Pinnacle Award...so Presidents, get those submissions completed and sent in to me on or before January 31, 2004!!!! The final challenge is Winners Circle submissions. I collected several while attending the State Meetings...be sure to cheek the NAIW Website to see if your name is there...if not, be sure to submit your card today!!!

We hope you will find these newsletters entertaining and informative.

Respectfully Submitted In Fellowship,

Jolene A. Gilbert,
ACSR, CPIW, CISR, AIS, CPSR, DAE,
2003-2004 Region VIII Vice President.
