From the President:

December 28, 2004.

Dear Members and Friends,

I do hope your Holidays were everything you dreamed they would be. We are now all looking forward to a new year - a clean slate, so to say, and I can see a very bright one for IWVC.

The staff and residents of Glenwood Care Center were blown away by the fish tank. I'm Sure that it will provide many hours of pleasure for the staff and residents alike. I must tell you about the gracious employees at Petco in Camarillo. They gave us the employee discount of 20% on everything plus a free Petco card to save on future purchases for the fish plus 20 free replacement fish! They wrote out care and feeding plus maintenance schedules, a real basic "what to do" for me (believe me, I needed it). These wonderful people were indeed wonderful to IWVC and Glenwood Care. God bless 'em all!

In this bulletin, you will find an application to the class our State Director, Judy LaBelle, will be teaching on January 24th. Please try to attend (if just for the lunch) since this will be our only visit from Judy for this area. I'm going for the luncheon and anyone who would like to go, please call me and we'll go together.

I'm sorry, but I will miss the January General Meeting due to a business trip. John Bell will be our speaker, once again, and this time I really do think we'll know everything about glass!

Our February meeting has been changed to a dress show/sale. We will make 10% of all receipts from all sales that night. We will be charging $5.00 per person to attend (this includes snacks) with an open bar. We will be doing a mass mailing to agencies in late January, but anyone and everyone is welcome. Nothing over $38.00 and this will be a Fall/Winter plus Spring/Summer show sale (since February is the turn over month between seasons). Please help support IWVC with your attendance and bring anyone else, too.

Looking forward to another wonderful year with the greatest ladies around - I am --

Yours in fellowship,
Ruth Uridel, CPIW.

EDITORIAL.

Dear IWASAC President and Editor of our newsletter:

I just finished reading the NAIW Now and I hardly know where to start.

  1. The Board approves ANOTHER vision statement. We spend most of our time deciding who we are and what we're doing. Let's find out what we're doing wrong & why we've lost over 70% of our members.
  2. New Programs & Products. I think it would be easier to get a new prescription drug approved.
  3. The registration fee for National Convention is $400. This is insane. If we would have a shorter, less glitzy convention with fewer high priced speakers, maybe more people could & would attend. If we have 800 paying registrants (highly unlikely) that is $320,000 plus what we get from sponsors. And we as members have NO right to know how this money is spent. We should TRUST the officers to do the right thing for the members. With this much money involved, I think the members should DEMAND a copy of the financial statement of the convention. But....been there, done that...didn't even get a T-shirt.
  4. We are allowing $6,500 for EXPENSES for our National Parliamentarian to attend the January Board Meeting. This does not include his fee I presume. $6,500. I can't get over it...$6,500!!!!! Where is he staying, what is he eating and is he arriving by private jet? A family of 4 could spend a week in Hawaii for 1/2 of this. Are we going to challenge this??
  5. Speaking of expenses, we are spending $2,500 for our National President and EVP (Lea King) to attend the AAMGA. I have to believe at least one of them is getting a complimentary registration. I wonder how much the AAMGA is allowing for 2 of their people to attend OUR Convention?
  6. I like the sentence at the top of page 3 regarding the Convention, "Surplus, if any."
  7. This paperwork a State Director has to go through to visit a Local Association. This is required, why do they have to write a long form as to why they visited a local association?
  8. I guess I don't really understand devoting a full page to a nice story about reading with a first grader. Why not a page on what local associations are doing to retain members?
  9. I'll probably get tarred and feathered but I really don't understand all the hoopla with the Education Foundation. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been contributed, an Executive Director is employed and only 100 scholarships have been given? Five were given in June and the next deadline is Jan 2004. So, we're talking about 5 in 6 months? I guess I'm just not "with it".
  10. And last, page 7. Is this a paid advertisement? If not, it should have been. Telling us what products this company offers should be paid for by them. Again, we could use the space for information about our members and associations.

I can't believe our national magazine has become a generic insurance publication and now THIS communication is going down the same road.

Written by Vicki Grush, Member of IWASAC & subscribed to by most of the members both full and local only. (GM.)
